Social Mobility –
A forum for leading graduate employers

Many UK companies have been tasked with diversifying their workforce to include a broader range of graduates. This summer saw the launch of the Social Mobility Forum, a partnership between Stafford Long & Partners and Realworld/ Push. The Forum has been set up to equip leading graduate employers with the necessary statistics and research to make informed decisions regarding their own recruitment strategies and to work together to create an industry-wide response. The event attracted plenty of top graduate employers including Barclays Capital, Sainsbury’s, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Coca Cola and the BBC.

Stafford Long presented the Forum with exclusive research findings on state school sixth form students. This research provided insight into students’ perceived barriers regarding university choice and career selection. It highlighted a need for employers to engage more directly with state school students with no family experience of university and indicated a need to inform teachers about available career options. Four expert panelists were on hand to take questions from delegates, and round table discussions were held on subjects such as attraction and social mobility measurement.

Our next Social Mobility Forum will be held in 2012. For more information contact James Street or visit the
